Sony Ericsson W8 – The First Walkman Phone With Android Inside

The Walkman series is the first mobile set that made Sony Ericsson what it is today: one of the most famous smartphone manufacturers in terms of multimedia cell phones. Prior to the Cybershot or Xperia series, the Walkman was this wonderful portable device that you could use to listen to music and it came in a wide range of colors and, the best part of it all, is that it also acted as a cell phone at the same time. Well, those of you that would love to re-live the Walkman days can now jump with joy as SE is planning to launch the first Android-based Walkman phone.

The W8 as it shall be known is mostly like an Xperia X8 but it will comes in a variety of beautiful colors and it will also bear the Walkman logo. What is there to know about this device? Well, first of all it is important to mention that there will be a 3inch touchscreen integrated that will render images at a native resolution of 320 x 480 pixels. Of course, you get a 3.5 mm headphones jack (Walkman would not be a Walkman without one of these) and on the back of the device you will discover a 3.2 MP camera.

Specs inside are not that amazing, as the Sony Ericsson Walkman W8 will comes with a 600 MHz single-core processor which goes hand-in-hand with the included 168 MB of RAM. As far as the Android operating system concerned, you will get no Gingerbread here (Android 2.3 that is) and not even Froyo, as the new SE is based on Android 2.1. the MH410 – Sony Ericsson’s stereo handset is also included in the package. Starting with Q2, you will find this phone in Vietnam, Thailand, Taiwan, Singapore, Philippines, Malaysia, India, Indonesia, Hong Kong and China and you can choose between Iconic Orange, Metallic Red and Azure Blue colors.
