It’s light, ultraportable, sexy slim and powerful and yes, it is here! Today MSI decided to show to the world the lightest laptop that packs an Intel Core i7 processor - the X460. This is not all – it also has a brother – the X460DX. Both 14-inch laptops are less than one inch thick and weigh 4.4 pounds. The great difference between them is that the X460DX comes with dual graphics card-switching.
These two babies are more than tempting. Let’s take the X460. We can choose between a Core i5 or a Core i7 processor, we also get an Intel HD Graphics 3000 display chip (not that extremely impressed with that). X460 comes with “new generation Intel Wireless Display to transmit 1080p HD programs to large screen full HDTVs, so you can enjoy high resolution pictures and 5.1 channel wrap around sound without the hassle of wires,” notes Eric Kuo, associate vice president for global sales.
Unfortunately, for X460DX there is no option in what concerns the processor – you will receive directly the Intel Core i5 chip. But this model seems to be more appropiate for gaming and entertainment, coming with an nVidia GeForce GT540M discrete graphics card. That’s much better!
Both laptops love the “3″ – they have USB 3.0 ports and Bluetooth 3.0. Besides this, they also feature a HDMI port and you can choose an optional SSD hard drive, extra the 750GB/640GB/500GB storage options. Battery life should not be a problem as both of them have a Turbo Battery+ hotkey to shut off idle devices. That would offer you a maximum of 8 hours of battery life. 8 is also the lucky number when it comes to RAM, that would be the maximum that you can get.
Last but not least, both laptops look great. As MSI notes, when they designed these two, they had an aerodynamic feather pattern in mind. The cover and the palm rest areas are made of aluminum alloy. I know that by know you already are quite more than tempted, but, unfortunately, there are no details regarding the price or the availability.
