What can you do when you have one of the most famous ereaders in the world and you would like to give the sales a boost? There is nothing more simple than offering it at a nice discount. This is what Amazon announced on not such a lucky day (for some the 13th mya bring bad luck): 3G Kindle at $139. This is not a miracle, it’s just a marketing trick.
Of course that the ereader is actually ad-supported adn Amazon is very grateful to AT&T: “A big thank you to AT&T for helping to make the new $139 price possible,” Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos wrote yesterday. This is the second move as Amazon firstly introduced a cheaper WiFi Kindle for $114, also with the help of ads.At that time we were wondering whether poeple would be willing to watch some ads (initial sponsors including Buick, Chase, Olay and Visa), just to pay less when getting the Kindle. It seems that it was a hit because Amazon was courageous enough to adopt the same strategy for the 3G version.
Kindle continues to remain the number one ereader, despite Amazon’s secrecy regarding the sales figures. How much time can it keep its position with all the competition coming in?
